Before Beginnings
By Omen-chan
Yoochun is a born romantic. He believes in impossible things like soulmates and love at first sight and love going on through life, death, and rebirth.
He hates living in America. He hates being teased (even jokingly) about being a “foreigner,” because he does feel foreign. He hates the thought that no matter what he does, he can’t fit in, and he hates how lonely he is that he actually tries. He hates staying up every night listening to his parents fighting and hiding his own tears while trying to comfort Yoohwan through his.
He still believes in soulmates, though, and he clings to any love he can find. But sometimes, that usually just makes him feel lonelier, and he prays hopelessly for the chance of change.
When his girlfriend breaks up with him, he isn’t even surprised. He wasn’t cheating, exactly. He was just lonely, and she was nice and he was so damn desperate for affection that he couldn’t say no. Nonetheless, he isn’t surprised when both go sour, leaving him alone yet again.
He doesn’t miss Korea, exactly, but he dreams of a place where he can fit, snug and comfortable, a place where he can experience love and friendship without having to fight for it, a place where he can find that love that he’s always wanted and always believed in. He knows that his homeland isn’t exactly that place, but he remembers fitting there in a way he could never experience here. He remembers a time when his parents didn’t fight, and he could eat at his grandmother’s table and play with his friends without having to always pretend.
He can’t even remember what it’s like not to pretend anymore.
So when Brothers Entertainment tells him that his contract has been bought by SM Entertainment, he can’t even feel excitement. He thinks about being a foreigner all over again. About things like accents, clothing, and that same old loneliness, and this time, he won’t even have his family. He feels like a scared little boy again.
He hates airplanes, and can’t ever imagine a time when he won’t look at them with that old heart-clenching fear, that they’ll be taking him away, again and again, from the people and places he loves. He wonders if leaving is such a good idea, and clutches onto his little brother as if he’s losing the last thing he has on earth. He cries himself to sleep on the plane; huddled down in his seat and trying to pretend like he isn’t surrounded by strangers, that his seat doesn’t smell like feet.
He can’t imagine that the life can be any worse than the one he’s leaving, but he can’t imagine it will be any better, either.
“I’m Kim Jaejoong.”
“Park Yoochun.”
“You don’t look very American.”
A sigh, and a shrug. “Yeah.”
A pause, and a head tilt. “Let’s be roommates.”
“I… what?”
Yoochun has always believed in soulmates.

Author’s Comments: Okay, so it’s super short, and I apologize, especially since it’s been so long since I’ve even been online, let alone wrote anything. But I was determined to at least get something out today to celebrate acquiring a new computer finally, and being able to access the internet and everything. So hopefully no one’s upset that it’s so short. ^^;;;
