Chapter Twelve
Written by Omen-chan and Sakura-chan

Jaejoong watches closely as the young medic finishes tying off the last of the bandages. He'd been allowed to stay on the small bunk with Yoochun, despite the boy's annoyed mutters about "infection" and "rest," and Jaejoong only had the captain to thank for that. Yunho had said things about how no one was going to be able to rest very well if the weird Uppers decided to freak and kill them all just because they had to be separated for a few minutes.

So, Jaejoong is squeezed against the wall (bulkhead, he reminds himself), with Yoochun's head in his lap. The other two had left about an hour ago, leaving them alone with the medic, and he can't help but feel surprised that they were trusted alone with him. He vividly recalls sharp images of an attack, and Yoochun falling, and everything that happened after, including his unreasonable reaction to the boy's help.

Still, at least it seems like no one's angry about it.

"Okay, all done." Jaejoong wonders if the boy's voice is always that soothing, or if it's put on for his benefit. Regardless, he doesn't let his guard down. "He should be all right. I injected him with a painkiller, and he should be out for a couple more hours. He suffered two broken ribs, and quite a few bruises, and I don't want him overexerting himself." He gives Jaejoong a firm glare. "No sex." He ignores Jaejoong's sputters and flushed cheeks. "Although I doubt he'll feel up to it. Cracked skull and broken bones do not a romantic scene make."

"What- Why would I- You-"

Changmin rolls his eyes and vaguely remembers hearing in school once how the really high class people tend to frown on same-sex relationships. Or some such ridiculousness. "Please. As if you were about to tear my arm off for nearly touching your brother. Anyway, I've got a few things left to do, so I'll leave you alone." He presses his fingertips to one of the bandages around Yoochun's torso and mutters, "At least you didn't ruin any of the medical supplies during your tussle with Hwa-Su. Then you'd be shit out of luck." Tossing his gloves into a small sink, he gives Jaejoong a brief smile and leaves.

"We can't keep them."

"Yunho, come on! We can't let two stray Uppers wander around Psi Level like a couple of lost kittens! You know they'd be dead in a day. Maybe less."

"They aren't pets, Junsu."

Junsu continues as if Yunho hadn't spoken. "And what about this whole mess with Hwa-Su? You really think he's just going to let them walk around his turf after they nearly killed him? You know he's gonna take them down in the worst possible way now. He can't let them get away with that - he'd lose face."

"We are not-"

"Not unless there's somebody down here that can protect them!" He grins at Yunho, feeling as if he's already won. "Someone big and strong and who Hwa-Su's afraid of, and won't cross."

"He won't cross me because I've never given him a reason -"

"And it's not like we're on Psi Level that much anyway! We're always out hunting. You know, doing our jobs." His smile is bright and sunny and the first Yunho had seen of it in weeks, instead of a weak facsimile.

Still, he has to say no. "That's right, Junsu. We're Hunters. What the hell are two Uppers going to be able to do to help with that? It's not like we have enough room on our ship to take in every pretty stray we see."

Changmin snorts as he walks onto the bridge and sprawls in the navigator's chair. "We already know you're going to cave, Yunho. What with the 'pretty,' and all that."

"Who ever said anything about pretty?"

"You did. Five seconds ago."

Yunho gapes and thinks back over the conversation, and then groans. Junsu and Changmin grin at each other.

"Okay, maybe I did. But the point still stands, and we're not letting them stay just because of their looks."

Junsu gives Yunho a look of pure, sweet, manufactured innocence. "Isn't that why Changmin and I are here?"

Changmin kicks him. "Speak for yourself. I'm pretty and smart."

Rolling his eyes, he turns away from them both and fires up the control panel. No matter what the others say, he's not about to let two unknowns onto his ship without some background information.

The first time he'd kissed Jaejoong, there'd been a sea of stars above them.

These stars are infinitely less inviting. And far more painful.

"Yoochun, if you try to move, I'll hit you way harder than any creepy, gross Psi Leveler ever could. I mean it."

Yoochun blinks slowly and focuses sharply on two worried, warm, velvet brown eyes. Despite the harsh words, those eyes look back at him, soft and red-rimmed, and Yoochun smiles a little. "Sadist."

"That's right, dammit. Now shut up and rest." He gives Yoochun a mock-glare that says "Or else."

Yoochun ignores it. Reaching up, he traces Jaejoong's cheek with his index finger, and pretends like doing it upside down isn't a little awkward with his head feeling the way it does. "I've rested enough. I miss you when my eyes are closed."

Jaejoong sucks in a short breath, and says in a hoarse voice, "You're being stupid. I'll be right here."

"Yeah, I know." He frowns as he finally notices the strange ceiling over Jaejoong's head, and turns to take in the rest of the room. "Where... are we?"

"A ship. After you... we... After. They found us. Apparently one of them's a medic, and he wouldn't take no for an answer, so they brought us here."

"The crew. There's only three of them, and I don't know their names, but they seem nice enough."

"Fuck. No."

"Yunho, would you stop being a bastard for five sec-"

"Absolutely not. We don't need this kind of trouble."

Junsu throws up his hands in exasperation, but Changmin frowns at the back of Yunho's head. Despite his form protests from earlier, he knew that Yunho had been moments away from taking on those two unknown Uppers as crew (nothing appealing to Yunho's paternal instincts more than two innocents needing protection), but something had apparently changed his mind quite seriously.

"What did you find?"

Yunho glances over at Changmin, eyes dark, guarded, and angry. "They're runaways."

"Yeah, we kind of figured-"

"One's the son of your professor."

Changmin blinks, clearly shocked. "Wha-"

"And the other one's a son of a senator. There's a huge reward out for them, and the whole damn city is looking for them."

Yoochun frowns and grips his head as a loud noise filters through, making his head ache even worse.

Jaejoong starts, and the only thing keeping him in place is the precious burden on his lap, as the captain, followed by his two crew members, storm into the room. "What the hell is wrong with you?"

Arms crossed over his chest, Yunho growls back at him, "I should ask you the same thing. I'd have never let you on my ship if I'd known."

"Known what?"

"Runaways. From Beta Level. The highest fucking level you can get unless you're god damn royalty."

"And, what, you're jealous? You can have my fucking place any -"

"You're going to bring the whole city down on our heads."

Jaejoong and Yoochun share a long look, but don't say anything.

Changmin does. Softly, "They can't leave yet, Yunho. That one's in no position to-"

"They sure as hell can't stay here!"

Junsu bites down hard on his lower lip and tries to placate his captain. "Listen, Yunho, I know you're upset, but it's not like we ever asked them..."

For the past minute or so, the two runaways hadn't looked away from each other once. Yunho's beginning to find this endearing, in a completely irritating way. "Fine. So they can tell us now."

Yoochun gives Jaejoong a small nod, and Jaejoong looks up, licking his lips nervously. "Okay. Okay. I'll tell you."

But before he can continue, a loud announcement blares through the ship. "Captain Yunho and crew of the Rising Sun, these are the authorities. Please exit your ship for questioning."
